Kidspiration Training Document

Step-by step instructions on using Kidspiration software to organize student thoughts and improve writing skills.
                                               Kidspiration
Kidspiration is a computer program that helps students organize their thoughts
through the use of graphic organizers.

1. Open Kidspiration. Select Picture.

2. Type your central topic in the First Idea box (make sure the words First Idea are
  highlighted).

3. To add subtopics, click on the Add Symbol button at top of screen. Click in the new
  oval and type first subtopic. To add additional subtopics to the First Idea, click on
  the oval with the First Idea, then click on the Add Symbol button. Click in the new
  oval and type the new subtopic. Repeat until all subtopics have been added.

4. To add details, click on one of the subtopic ovals (oval is selected when handles
  appear around it), click on the Add Symbol button at the top of the screen, click on
  the new oval, and type information. Repeat as needed. For each subtopic, make
  sure the subtopic oval is selected before adding a detail oval.

Hint: You must click on the oval that you want to add a branch to before clicking on
the Add Symbol button. The symbol that you want to write in must be selected.

5. To view in outline form, click on the Go to Writing button at the top of the screen.
  This helps students organize their writing into paragraphs.

6. You can customize your web by changing graphics and text.
  * To change the oval to a graphic, click on the oval and select a library of graphics
   by clicking on the down arrow on side toolbar. Click on the category. then on the
   graphic.
  * To change the text, highlight the text and use the bottom menu bar to change font,
   text size, text style, and text color. You can also change symbol colors here.

7. To add student name, click on the Student Name symbol and type in one of the
  boxes. The name won’t appear on the page, but it will print.

8. To change the page orientation, go to File to Page Setup. You can preview your
  document by going to File to Print Preview to see if portrait or landscape would be
  best.

9. Select Print from File menu.
