How to use Lotus Notes on a web browser (iNotes 6.5). Currently for Windows users who's mail accounts have been upgraded to iNotes 6.5
Using Lotus Notes on the Web
(iNotes 6.5)

Open your web browser (most likely it will be the big blue on your desktop )
Type in the address: notes.buffalo.k12.ny.us (NO www.!) Press Enter.
Your screen should look like this:
Type your user name in the box. It is usually your first initial and your last name (Don’t use
spaces). Now click on the password box and enter your password. Then click Login.
Note:You may be prompted for the computer to remember your password. It is best to say NO.
If you are having problems with your password, contact the Help desk at 851-3510 and
they can reset it.
Click on Open Your Mail File.

How to Read Your e-Mail.
After logging in to iNotes, move your mouse over the Mail tab and click on the Inbox in the
dropdown menu.
This is where you will see your Inbox. This will give you a list of all of your e-mails.
You will be able to identify who sent it, the date and time it was sent, the size of the file and the
subject.
To read your e-mail, just double click on the name of the person who sent you the e-mail.
Note: After you read an e-mail, and return to the Inbox, you will notice the e-mail that you just
read changed color.

To Trash or Delete a message:
If the message is open, then just go up to the Tool Bar and click one time on the Trash Can.
If you are in your Inbox, click one time on the message, then go up to your Tool Bar and click
on the Trash Can one time.
Note: You can delete multiple messages at one time by clicking on the first message then hold
down the Shift key and click on the last message you wish to delete, then click the Trash Can.
If you change your mind and do not want a message deleted, you can go to the Mail Tab (where
you went to get to your Inbox) and drag down to Trash. This will open the Trash folder. You
then must click on Restore in the tool bar. This will put the message back into your Inbox.
How to Create and Send a New E-mail Message
1. Point to the Mail tab on the top
of your window like you did
to get to your Inbox and click
on New Message.
2. Enter the address in the To field
(How to use the Address Book
will be explained on the following
page.)
3. Type the subject of the message
in the Subject field.
4. Click in the message area.
If your cursor appears you
may begin typing your message.
5. Click Send on the top tool bar.

How to Use the Address Book
After you open a new message,
click on the To button.
This will open the Address Book
You will see your personal list of contacts.
To locate the Buffalo Address and the Regional
Address Books, click on the dropdown menu.
From here you can click on the Buffalo Address
Book.

To locate someone in the Buffalo Address
Book:
1. Type their last name in the Find box.
2. Click on Search.
3. To add a contact from the Buffalo
Address Book or the Regional
Address to your Contacts, click on the
Copy button and it will put it in your
personal address book for the next
time.

Once you have located your addressee, click on his/her name and then click on:
To: to address the e-mail to that person
cc: to send this person a carbon copy of the
message
bcc: to send blind carbon copy, meaning the
addressee will not know it was sent to someone
else
You can repeat these steps as many times as
necessary to send the message to multiple
contacts.
When you are finished, click Exit.
Opening an Attachment
1. When you receive a message that contains an attachment, the attached file(s) will be visible at
the bottom of the message window. (This message contains 2 attachments.)
2. To view the attachment, move your cursor onto the file name so the name turns red and click.
3. Depending on the type of attachment, the file will either open (Adobe .pdf files) or you will be
asked if you wish to open or save the file (Word .doc or Excel .xls files).

If you choose , Windows will open the document in a separate window and allow you to
view, edit, and/or save it. Simply closing this window will return you to the original e-mail message
and will not save the document.
If you choose , Windows will open the Save As window. Here you will be able to send the
file to your hard drive to be opened later.
Clicking the down arrow here will allow you to send the file to wherever you wish.

change the name
of the file by
typing the new
name here.
Never change the file type, this could really mess things up!

Click in this window when you are ready. Windows will confirm that the file was
downloaded successfully.

How to attach a file to an e-Mail message.
You may attach any type of file to an e-mail message as long as you know where to find it on
your computer. Note: Pictures, music, and especially videos are very large files and may “tie up” your
computer for a while if you try to send them as attachments.
1. To attach a file to a message, simply
click on the box at the bottom of the
new message window next to “Add
Attachments:”.
2. The bottom of the window will change
to show the attachments Browse and
Add to List buttons
3. Click the button and the
Choose File window shown below
will appear.

to the place where your file is
saved.
Choose the file by clicking once to
highlight it.
When the correct file is selected
click .
4. You will be returned to your new message window and the file you have chosen will be shown
in the box next to the Browse button.
Note: You may not see the entire file name because Lotus Notes includes the entire “file path”.
5. As long as you selected the correct file in Step 3, go ahead and click on .
The file will be moved to the attachment list. You may then add another file if you wish or use the top
tool bar to send your message with the attachment.
Note: Only files may be attached, not folders or entire directories.

Sending Your Message:
After completing your message, you have a few options to Send your e-mail
Send: Just sends your message
Send & File: Sends your message and keeps a copy in your files
Save As Draft: This saves your message for future editing.
If you want confirmation that your e-mail was received, click on Return receipt.
How To Customize Your iNotes:
Click on Preferences
Click in this box and type your
name and any information you want
to appear on the bottom of every
e-mail.
Then click this box to check it and it
will automatically put this at the
bottom of every message you send.
Click here and you will be alerted
when you receive a new e-mail.

How to Read Your e-Mail.
