Update: Some Safari Editing Support in NYLearns, not certified...

by Scott Nourse last modified Oct 11, 2008 12:18 PM

NYLearns.org has updated their web based editor to support many functions on Safari (1.3, 2.0+). It is not currently fully ready or supported at this time!

Safari IconIt looks like NYLearns' web based editor has been upgraded to support Safari for some functions.  It looks like most are supported, except for the link/image tools and uploads and some of the more complicated ones.

The website (http://www.telerik.com) of Telerik, makers of r.a.d. editor, state that "Due to the security restrictions of the Safari browser, certain functions of r.a.d.editor do not work. Two of the tools work partially." More compatibility notes are available on their website.

This will allow teachers to use  Safari for most  normal web editing functions, though the built in upload tools will be problematic for extended use.

It will still probably be recommended that people use Firefox for heavy duty editing of their NYLearns pages.

NYLearns.org has not been certified to run on Safari

Hi Scott

I read your article on Buffaloschools.org - http://itech.buffaloschools.org/tech-integration/tis-news-and-events/events/partial-safari-editing-support-in-nylearns/view.

I wanted to let you know that NYLearns.org has not been certified to run on Safari. You may have noticed a change in the editor, but it was not specifically updated to address the Safari issues. Not only are there issues to be resolved with My Webpage using Safari, there are other sections that require some attention from our developers and design team - My Portfolio is one example. Those using Safari will experience random problems until we've fully completed our work.

I know some of our users are anxious to use NYLearns.org with Safari. We are doing our best to move forward on this request, but do not expect to have this task complete until mid November. Not only do we need to address the issues identified with the editor, we also need to update our manuals and provide users with alternative ways to address functions that will not work with Safari.

Until users receive an update from us, we recommend using only the browsers that are listed on our system requirements page.

Thanks,
Barb
