NYLearns Link Issue with Firefox 1.5

There is an issue with NY Learns links and Firefox 1.5 in both Windows and Macintosh. When searching for a resource the resulting link (actually, a javascript) results in opening the linked web page in a Firefox window that has NO address (url) field. The problem has been sent to the NYLearns folks..

There is an issue with NY Learns links and Firefox 1.5 in both Windows and Macintosh (this problem does not seem to affect Safari or Internet Explorer 6+).  When searching for a resource the resulting link (actually, a javascript) results in opening the linked web page in a Firefox window that has NO address (url) field. The problem has been sent to the NYLearns folks...

A screenshot (below) shows the missing address bar.

NYLearns Address bar bug

Because the link is a javascript it cannot be copied and used to create a link.   (in this example it looks like: javascript:openWin('http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eoswego%2Eorg%2Focsd%2Dweb%2Fmatch%2Fterm%2F draggeneric%2Easp%3Ffilename%3Dmcowellnyscon', 'ContentURL', 'width=750,height=450,left=100,top=100,screenX=75, screenY=50,location=no,status=no,menubar=no,toolbar=yes,resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes');)

Workaround:

For now, if the actual URL is listed as the link, selecting and copying the text will give you the proper URL.

If the URL is not part of the link text, we have no simple workaround at this time.

Please comment below if you have a workable solution, and we'll post the status of the issue when we hear back from the folks at NYlearns.org...

FYI- The folks at NYLearns have responded, and indicate that this is a desired behavior intended to make the links "less confusing"-- based on their user testing. If you agree or disagree- I'm sure they'd like to hear. http://nylearns.org/templates/nylearns/contactus.aspx#
