Superintendent's Convocation 2006 Video Online

The superintendent's opening day convocation which aired live (Tuesday 9/5/06) on Thinkbright is being rebroadcast via Quicktime Streaming and is available as a downloadable Quicktime movie. Read more for details...

The superintendent's 2006 Convocation presentation is avialable online via a Quicktime stream (which replays), as well as a downloadable quicktime file.

What you need:

  • A fairly fast Mac or PC (G4 eMac or Pentium IV PC)
  • Ethernet connection (available on the district network only)
  • A way to present the broadcast (an overhead projector, or a Tandberg unit connected to your computer as a monitor)
  • Quicktime 7 installed (preferably the Quicktime 7 pro for full screen (e-mail scaher@buffalo.k12.ny.us for the registration code.) Please note- you will need to have admin privileges and Deep Freeze (if installed) must be unlocked.

Quicktime Stream

The downloadable Quicktime file will take a moment to download, but will allow you to save the file to replay it whenever you like.

Method 1: View in a web page.

The video will start playing after it downloads- the download may take a few minutes.

Method 2: Save the Movie to your computer

  • Right-click (on a Mac: ctrl-click) on the following link:
  • Convocation 06 Download
  • Choose "Save Link As" (or "Download Link As", or "Save target as"..., depending on your browser).
  • Select a name and location for the file and click save.
  • To play the movie, double click the file you have just saved. Resize the window as desired.

The Quicktime stream will start faster but will be constanty looping- when you "tune in" to the broadcast you will start wherever the broadcast happens to be at that time.

Method 1:  Quicktime Reference file.

  • Download this Quicktime reference file: Convocation06.sdp.mov (Right click- Save to disk)
  • Save this file to an easy to find location- for example: the Desktop.
  • Double click the file to open Quicktime Player and view the live streaming video. If the stream stops playing for any reason, click the play button again.


Method 2: Manually enter the stream URL in Quicktime player.

  • Start Quicktime Player.
  • Choose File-->Open URL 
  • Enter  rtsp://172.28.127.208/convocation06.sdp in the url field, click ok. 

  • The video stream should start playing- resize the window to the desired size, or switch Quicktime Player to full screen mode if you have the Pro version.

Advanced: Burn a DVD

If you have would like to have a DVD of the Convocation, and have a PC or Mac with the appropriate disc buring software (for example, Nero on PCs, Disk Utility on Mac OS X), download an .iso disc image here (Convocation06.iso 1.68 GB)
