District Inauguration Viewing Plan
E-mailed to TIS's January 16, the plan suggests watching the inauguration via cable or TV due to anticipated, unprecedented network traffic.
District Inauguration Viewing Plan
(e-mailed Friday, January 16, 2009)
By now you are all aware that you have been asked to set up the viewing areas
in your school(s) for Tuesday's inaugural broadcast and have received the
preliminary communications regarding the preferred methodology for viewing the
inauguration.
To recap (in order of preference):
1) Broadcast/cable television: If your school has cable or the capacity to view
local channels 2, 4, and 7, and/or cable, we would highly recommend watching
the Inauguration on television.
2) Tandberg: Some schools already have plans to view the event and maximize
technology to have discussions with students at other schools.
• Make sure to mute your microphones during the program.
• Dial into conference. 77002
• The conference will start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.
3) Internet.: On the day of the Inauguration the Buffalo Public Schools website
will offer links to wgrz.com, wivb.com, and wkbw.com, the White House website,
and cspan.org. The best use of the internet is in schools that have Whiteboards,
where entire classes could watch one live stream instead of using 20-25
individual computers.
Please refer to the email below from Erie 1 Boces explaining why watching via a
live stream on the internet is not recommended.
Given the historic significance of the Presidential Inauguration on Tuesday,
January 20, 2009 and the expected global potential usage of the Internet to view
the ceremonies, the WNYRIC is recommending you, where possible, to please
refrain from using the WNYRIC network to access the Internet to view the
proceedings. The magnitude of this event, internally and with our districts (and
globally), could have an unpredictable impact on our Internet access.
We suggest that schools use television broadcasts to view the ceremonies within
their buildings.
Please be alerted the high Internet demand of this event may cause Internet
slowdown during that day, especially between 12:00-1:00 p.m., the scheduled
time of the Inaugural Address.
