The second inservice of the 2008-09 school year is planned for Thursday, November 13 at the BPDTC, 150 Lower Terrace, starting at 8:30 a.m. Please note Thursday's agenda has been revised. Scott Nourse will be show us some of the capabilities of the new multimedia server. Bob Sirekas and Visions will be on the agenda in Dec.

The day will start off with short presentation from Tim Slaght, BPS District Math Support Teacher. He will talk about the TI-SmartView Emulator Software which became available in October 2008. Designed to support the TI-84 Plus family, the software complements the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus families of graphing calculators, letting the teacher project an interactive representation of the calculator’s display to the entire class.

You will receive a link to download the software and the license key. This software is licensed for all Buffalo math teachers to use.

Karen Murray, also a BPS District Math Support Person, will give an update on the Investigations roll-out.

Our day will be book-ended by another math curriculum update. Doug Clements from UB is going talk about the findings of his almost decade long math study conducted in Buffalo Schools. The Building Blocks program sponsored by UB will come to end this year.

Keith Hughes, Social Studies teacher from McKinely High School, is going to walk us through creating online quizzes, using Teacher Pages.

As you know, the Help Desk no longer takes phone calls and there are times when you need to get in touch with someone immediately. Kathryn Hocking, BPS System Analyst is going to show us how to install and use Sametime messaging through Lotus Note....the Buffalo version of the "Bat Phone." Bring your laptop Thursday, as you will be installing the Lotus client, if you haven't done so already, and setting up Samtetime.

Matt Braverman from the FBI is going to talk about Cyber Safety for kids, touching on some new problems, such as cyber bullying.

Because we have a tight schedule, we will be ordering lunch in from Sue's NY Deli. The lunch menu is online and will remain live until 7 a.m. Thursday. Please order online and pay Beth Kassirer Thursday morning.

The link for the online evaluation will go live Thursday afternoon.

This all day in-service is one of 6 training days scheduled for this school year. Training is planned for Oct. 17, Nov. 13, Dec. 18, Feb. 19 March 26 and May14. Please mark these dates on your calendar.
