When PC Laptops Won't Log on

by Sharon Caher last modified Oct 11, 2008 12:17 PM

The "fix" for this puzzling problem was provided to us by Kathryn Hocking, IT Help Desk.

When PC laptop won’t log user on.....

Try logging on as yourself (or someone with administrator rights) and repair the LAN connection:

Here's how:

  • Shut down and restart the computer
  • log on as someone with administrator rights
  • from the desktop, right-click My Network Places
  • left-click Properties
  • single-click on ‘Local Area Connection’ so it’s highlighted
  • Click File, Repair.  Ideally you will end up with ‘Windows finished repairing your connection. You can try connecting again . . . “.   If you don’t, you have a bigger problem than the logon.
  • Click Close
  • Close the Network Connection screen
  • Shut down and restart the computer
  • Try logging on with the problematic user id
