Setting Up the HP 2300 Printer on an IBM ThinkPad
(Using the software CD)
Click; start
Click; Printers and Faxes
In the left side of the Printers and Faxes window, under Printer Tasks click; Add a printer
Click;
In the next window select; Local printer attached to this computer and uncheck the box to automatically detect the printer, Click;

In the next window select Create a new port:, and select
Standard TCP/IP Port from the drop down list, Click;

Click;
again.
Enter the IP address of the printer that you want in the Printer Name field. (You can find the IP address on the printer configuration page. To print a configuration page; see directions on last page.)
Port name will auto-fill, Click;
again.Click;
.In the Install Printer Software window select
.In the Install from Disk window click the Browse… button.
Be sure the software CD is in the drive and use the following path to locate the driver file in the Locate File window:
Look in: D:\English\Drivers\Win2000_XP\PCL6\hpf2300c.inf
Double click on each folder to “drill down” and find the hpf2300c.inf file on the disk.
Click once on this file so it is highlighted and click
.
Click the
button in the next window.
Select the HP LaserJet 2300L PCL 6 from the Printers list and click
.
In the next window you can give the printer a unique name and set it as the default printer if you wish. Hint use a name that includes a location for the printer also. Click
when ready.
In the Printer Sharing window select; Do Not Share.
In the next window you can print a test page if you wish.
Click
, you will see the Copying Files window open and close and the Add Printer Wizard will lock up. Clicking on this window will produce a “(Not Responding)” message in the title bar. Don't get scared!
Restart the computer from the Start menu; click End Now in any Ending Program windows that pop up. After the restart the printer will be appear on your printer list.
Printing the configuration page for a HP 2300
You will use the controls on the front of the printer to print a configuration page, first make sure the printer is on and connected to the network.
On the printer display window you see “For Menus Press 
”.
Press 
one time, press the down arrow button to highlight “Information” and press 
to select. Press down arrow again to highlight “Print”,
press 
again to select. Press 
again to print the configuration page.
