Mac OS X 10.4.3 Client and Server Updates Released- Caution Please!

by admin last modified Oct 11, 2008 12:17 PM

Apple has released updates for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. Do NOT install from software update. We suggest only updating on test computers before widespread adoption.

Mac OS X 10.4.3 Updates

Apple has released 10.4.3 updates for both the client and server model.  We do have some 10.4 clients out there with more on the way, and are doing limited testing on Tiger Server.  The update looks like it has some good fixes and performance improvements, but it is a large intensive update that may cause unforseen problems.

We recommend waiting for large scale deployment.  If you do want to test these updates out before it is tested and approved, please follow the following precautions:

  • Check MacFixit, Apple Discussion Boards, and MacNN for problems that may effect devices or applications you rely upon.
  • Do not install on a production machine
  • Backup all data files and write down any necessary setup information
  • Boot off of another 10.4 bootable drive first (Firewire, 10.4 install CD) and repair the disk and repair the disk permissions
  • Only install the Combo updaters- do NOT use the software update that's built in.
  • Repair the disk permissions after rebooting.
  • Test all district apps under local and network users
  • Please comment on any successes or failures below.

Thanks!

It's fixed the Script Editor Crashing when opening an Applescript dictionary problem, has stopped Safari from slowing down periodically, as well as some Mail.app speedups. No problems yet... crossing fingers... -snourse
