Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Issues / Solutions
Xerox shipped broken printer drivers to Apple and didn't tell them until after OS X 10.4 had been shipped. Here are the issues and solutions.
If
you've upgraded to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, or have an iBook from the
FIRST round of laptop distribution, you may have problems printing to
Xerox Machines.
Symptoms include:
- Error messages when printing (Printer Setup Utility) that indicate a xerox filter has crashed
- The job prints but only prints out an error message or gibberish.
Fixes include:
- Setting the printer type to "Generic". This will allow printing, but also disables access to the Xerox's advanced features.
- A series of precise deletions, installations of new drivers, and repair utilities, or
- Download and run the installer found here which will perform all of the steps of #2 for you. This solution is recommended.
To See if you have the current, updated drivers for Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), look for the following:
- The WCP 65, 75, and 90s show up as "Xerox WorkCentre Pro 65" , not "Xerox WCP 65"

- The
Driver information for a selected printer (WCP 65, 75, 90) will show up
as 1.4.4 or later (the older versions are 1.4.11, etc..) on the Printer
Setup Utility Get Info.
