2. Home page features
• Home Page Content on left - same as sections on main part of page
• Behind the Headlines - changes often
* Other Behind the Headlines - archive of past headlines
• Features of the Month - changes monthly
* All about - once there, double click on a word to go to the dictionary
• Research Libraries
* Browse - use table of contents to explore main collections
* Search - (sample search) type Bill of Rights in the first box with having these
words in the TITLE as the criteria; click Go; go back to the Search area by
clicking on the Search tab or clicking the Back arrow; type Declaration in the
TITLE box; you get 235 documents; go back; type Declaration of Independence;
you get 21 results; look at first document; click on Declaration of
Independence link or you can click on the Document tab
• Spanish Encyclopedia - (sample) click on Z; click on Zapato; look at entry
• Subscriber News - new and ongoing notices
• Today in History - changes daily; Other important dates in history allows you to
choose a month
• What’s New - new pictures, articles, dictionary entries, revisions, maps, etc.; previous
month’s What’s New
• Media Showcase - featured questions and answers; Archive gives access to questions
and answers for the past month
• Site Contents - links to the different types of World Book databases
• Dictionary - type word in Search Dictionary box OR type word in Search all
content box and choose Dictionary in the Search Results area; to access the dictionary
when in an article, (Mac) hold the Shift key, double click the word, pause, double click
again; (PC) double click the word
• Atlas - (sample) click link for South America or you can click on the map; look at
Average yearly precipitation
• Surf the Ages - imaginary websites from Ancient Times, Middle Ages, and Modern
Times that combine real history with imagination - (sample) click on Middle Ages; click
on The Cathedral Steps; select MNN - Mongol News Network; click on Interview
with the Great-Khan
• New York State Resources - guide to World Book links for New York State resources;
to get other state resource pages go to Site Contents; click Go to Student Resources;
click on United States state resource guides
• Accessibility in blue menu - tells how to change text style and size
ON WINDOWS: Internet Explorer
to change size - Font to Internet Options to General to Accessibility - click on
Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages; close windows; click View to Text
Size - click on the preferred size
to change style - Font to Internet Options to General to Accessibility - click on
Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages; close Accessibility window; click on
Fonts in Internet Options window - choose; close windows
ON MAC: Safari - Preferences to Appearance
