Harcourt Trophies Website Description

A description of each section of the Harcourt Trophies Website; includes grade level, description, and the type of each activity
                    Harcourt Website

1. To logon: Type harcourtschool.com in the address box of your Internet provider.
       Click on The Learning Site icon. Click on Reading. Click on Harcourt
       Trophies. Click on the book icon for Program Users. The Password is
       Farr. Type in your school (number only). Select your state. Select
       where you’ll be using this site. Make sure Save Password box is
       selected (This will allow you to go directly to the activities page the next time
       you sign on.). Click on the bird.
2. To get to the Teacher site: Click on Resources for Teachers. Click on Teacher
                Registration. Fill in all information using the Tab key to go
                to the next box. Click Continue. If information is correct,
                click Submit. Make sure to write down your User Name and
                Password. Next time you can just sign in.

3. Electronic Lesson Planner: K-6 - five day lesson plan for each story; actual links
                  (written in blue) to the additional support material
4. Ancillary Resources: K-6 - list of all support materials and links to them
5. Assessment Guide: K-6 - same as the laminated insert that came with the series
6. Language Support Poster Lessons: lessons that support the Language Support
                        Posters on the main menu; beginner,
                        intermediate, and advanced levels; posters
                        available in three formats - same as student
                        view, student view with labels, color view; can
                        be printed
7. Leveled Books: K-6 - list of all titles with ISBN #, grade level, Reading Recovery
           level, guided reading level, DRA level, Lexile level, genre, and
           cross-curricular connection; sorted by predecodable, decodable,
           independent readers, ELL, below-level, on-level, advanced-level,
           and library; printable
8. Graphic Organizers: printable examples of blank graphic organizers that are
              appropriate for all grade levels
9. Internet Safety: printable acceptable use policy form for students and
           parents/guardians to sign
10. Proofreading Makes Perfect Answer Key: 1-6 - answers to all Proofreading Makes
                           Perfect activities; printable
11.Grammar Practice Park Skills Correlations: 3-6 - grid showing theme, activity title,
                            and grammar/usage/mechanics skill;
                            printable
12. Teacher Resource Links: links to elementary reading and language arts related sites
13. Intervention Skills Cards Answer Keys: 2-6 - answers to all Intervention Skills
                          Cards; printable
14. Crosswalk to Writing: Using Trophies in Writing Workshops: K-6 - correlates

15. Be sure to go back to the Teacher Resources page and click Log Out so the site
  remains secure.

22. Proofreading Makes Perfect - 1-6 - activities to download and print; practice using
                    editing symbols and rewriting; can’t be done on
                    screen
23. Writing Detective - 2-6 - online multiple choice quizzes on various types of writing;
            includes a lesson; allows students to go back to lesson or
            passage for each question; gives number of correct answers out
            of possible total and grade in %; can’t be printed
24. Grammar Practice Park - 3-6 - practice activities for various grammar skills; includes a
                grammar glossary; can be printed
25. Go for Grammar Gold! - 1-6 - begins with a brief lesson, then a quiz; allows students
               to go back to lesson at each question; give number of correct
               answers out of possible total and grade in %; can’t be
               printed
26. Homework Helper - 1-6 - by theme and week; each week has an assignment for
             Reading, Phonics, Writing, Theme, Cross-Curricular (grades 1 &
             2) and Vocabulary, Comprehension, Literature Response,
             Grammar/Writing, and Spelling (grades 3-6); includes links to
             vocabulary and spelling words; can be printed
27. Language Support Posters - words on posters are read when mouse touches them;
                   there is a conversation when the cursor turns into a hand
                   and is clicked on a part of the poster; can be printed by
                   clicking on Download button below picture
28. Multimedia Grammar Glossary - 1-6 - alphabetical listing of grammatical terms with
                     links to related terms; can print word list or selected
                     page by clicking in appropriate section

    Internet Safety - rules for Internet safety for students and parents/guardians to sign
    Reading Tips for Parents - four page U.S. Department of Education brochure
                   including topics on helping a child become ready to
                   read and learn, recognizing a good early reading
                   program, strategies for creating a strong reader, and
                   the essential components of reading
    Helping Your Child Take Tests - information on why tests are given, how to
                       prepare a child for a test, and test taking tips
    Helping Your Child Become a Good Writer - information on what the parent can
                              do, what a young child can do,
                              what an older child can do, and the
                              writing process
    Parent Resource Links - links to parent information and to sites for children to do
                  research
