Step 1: Open the admin area
To make changes to your web pages, open the School Admin Area.
Open an internet browser. If you are using a PC, use Internet Explorer or Firefox. If you are a
Mac user, open Firefox.
(To download Firefox: http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/)
Type the following url into the address bar: http://bpsws01.buffaloschools.org/bsadmin
At the login screen (pictured below) type your first name, your last name and your password.
If you have not logged in and changed your password, it is 1234.
Click Login
To view the new Buffalo Public Schools website, use the following url:
http://bpsws01.buffaloschools.org/index_test.cfm

Step 2: Change your password
As a web administrator, it is advised that you change your password the first time you log into
the admin area.
From Web Site Tools, click on Edit your information in the Administration Area
You will be asked to type your current password (hint: 1234)
Then you will create a new password.
Confirm your new password by typing it again.

Step 3: Drilling down to your web pages
Your department has a “homepage” and sub pages that can only be accessed from that page.
From Web Site Tools, click on Site Content under Web Pages-Site Content
To open your Department’s Home Page, click on the link below Dept. Pages.

Click on Sub Pages under Sub Pages. This will give you a list of all the pages that can be
accessed from your home page.

Step 4: Move a page
There maybe a time when you want to move a page within your department area. In the
example below, I have created a page called My New Page Sub Page and would like that page
to be accessible only if a visitor is on My New Page.
To start the process, open Site Content. Click on Sub Pages. This gives you a list of all the sub
pages on your site. Click the Move link.
This opens the Page Moving tool.
Your first choice is to move the page so that it is linked to your homepage or to show a list of
the rest of your pages. (See next page.)

The number (1) following Show Pages, indicates, I have one sub page on my site.
Note: I can not link pages off of Calendar of Events or Forms & Publications.
Click on Show Pages.
Click on Move to Here to link My New Page Sub to My New Page. My page now is listed
under the Quick Links on My New Page. See below.

Step 5: Create a hyperlink
You can create a link to another page or another website two ways.
To create a link from text within the body of your web, open the page in edit mode.
Type some text. Highlight the text you want to link.
Click on the link tool to open the Link Editor.
In the Link Editor, type in the website’s url. Don’t bother to fill in anything else.

Step 5: Uploading Files
You can make your documents available to your users by storing them in the site’s Filing
Cabinet or link your documents to a page. We will look at both methods.
To link a document to a page, drill down to the page you would like to edit. Open the page
in edit mode.
Click on the Files tab. Notice the number 1 (Files -1). I have already uploaded one file
Click on the Browse button. This will allow you to search the files on your workstation, for
the one(s) you would like to upload to the website.

You are asked to give the file a friendly name and a short description. Click Save.
Notice that you can add another file or five more files at one time by selecting that option
from the drop down menu at the lower right of the window.
You can also control the order that your files will appear on the page. My new file will appear
second in the list, but I could reorder them if I wished.
This is how the files are displayed on your page. They would appear below any text or
pictures you placed on the page.

To add to the Filing Cabinet, we click on Add File one of the tools in the Website Filing
Cabinet section of Web Site Tools.
Imagine a large filing cabinet. Your department has a drawer and that drawer is filled with
folders containing your documents. Before you add a file, you might want to create a “folder”
to store that document and others that are similar.
To do this, click on Edit File Categories.
Because for instructional purposes, I am editing the Teacher Center pages, I will click on
Teacher Center.

On the next screen you will be able to create a new sub category (folder).
After you have created your new category, click on Add File. Check the folder, where you
want to store your document. Browse for your file on your computer. Supply a Friendly
Name and a Start and End, as well as a File Description. Click Save.

Step 6: Add a Department Page Image
You can add two images that will appear in the upper right hand corner of your department
homepage. They will rotate randomly as users open this page.
Under Web Master Admins Only, click on Dept. Page Images.
Again I am acting as the web master for the Teacher Center.
Notice the number next to the add image link. So far no images have been uploaded.
Click on the add image link.

Like uploading a file, you can search your computer for the image files you would like to
upload, by clicking the Browse button. Remember you can only upload gif and jpg files.
Click Open to select the file.
Click Save to upload your images.

Want to delete an image from this area?
Click on the edit link.
Check the delete box underneath the picture and click Save.

Step 7: Add a news story
Click on Add News under School News Items. (Schools and Departments use the same news
posting tool.)
Fill in a Headline. Pick a start and hide date and type the story. Click Save.

Once you have saved your news story, you can add other options.

Step 7: Add a Calendar Event
Click on Add Event under Calendar System.
Type in an Event Headline and select a Specific Category.

CSet a Start and End date for your event.
Supply the time, event site and a description. We are working are driving directions of district
locations.
Click Save.

Step 8: Using the image gallery
The Gallery is the place where you upload pictures that will be used on your web pages.
To access the Gallery, open a page in Page Text (edit mode). Click on the Gallery icon in the
toolbar.
I am going to add a second folder to Gallery” To create a folder, name the folder and click
Create Folder.

Click on the folder icon to open the folder. Click on the Browser button, to locate the image
file on your hard drive.
Click the Upload Image button to copy the file from your computer to the Gallery.
To insert an image on your web page from the Gallery, click on the Gallery icon in the
toolbar.
Select My Images. Open the folder containing the image you would like to use. In our
demonstration case, this is the inservice folder.

Select the image. Click on Insert to place the image on your page.
